About JedMorey.com

JedMorey.com is a Long Island based website that features edgy, thoughtful political pieces from high-profile contributors. The curator of the site is Jed Morey, publisher of the Long Island Press alternative newsweekly and a heckuva guy.

If the Long Island Press is the master network, JedMorey.com is the political channel. The site covers a broad spectrum of issues ranging from Indian rights and the state of journalism to U.S. politics and environmentalism. JedMorey.com is not a repository for negative, anonymous comments and it has no hidden agenda; rather it’s an unlimited op-ed page that strives to become the epicenter of quality New York political commentary.

The contributors have roots on Long Island because, quite frankly, Long Islanders view the world a little differently than people from other less beautiful, intriguing, and scenic places in America. In other words, we’re smarter than everyone else… we just don’t necessarily sound like it when we “tawk.”

(Oh, and Brooklyn and Queens are part of Long Island no matter what anyone from either borough tries to tell you. It’s fact. And if any of them deny it, tell them to look at a map and get over it.)

We hope you enjoy your stay on our little site. And if you don’t…. beat it.

About Jed Morey

Jed Morey is the publisher of the Long Island Press, an alternative weekly newspaper with a circulation of 85,000, and www.longislandpress.com, which welcomes more than 750,000 unique visitors every month.

In addition to publishing the Press and hosting this site, Morey serves on the board of the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in Nassau County and is an advocate for Indian rights. Morey is also a proud founding member of the Keep It On Long Island (KIOLI) movement, an online community – www.kioli.org – dedicated to preserving the Long Island economy while providing environmental stewardship in the region. The Kioli founding members set aside 5% of membership investments to purchase shares of a local, organic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project, which then donates the equivalent shares to Island Harvest, a Long Island-based hunger relief organization.

When not arguing with public officials or beating his head against the wall trying to run a newspaper in the digital information age, Morey authors a column for the Long Island Press entitled “Off The Reservation” which was voted 2010 Best Column in New York State by the New York State Press Association. Tragically, he roots for the Mets, Jets and NY Islanders.

Morey received a bachelor of something or other from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and an Executive M.B.A. from Hofstra University. Both institutions continue to improve dramatically year after year, giving younger people the impression that Morey is smarter than he really is.

Jed Morey lives in Glen Cove with his wife, Eden White, and their two daughters.
